Studio Notes 12 - The Ambition Audit
How redefining ambition actually impacted me and my business this month.
Hello Lovely,
How are you doing? How was March for you? I’m feeling pretty drained if I’m honest, the clocks changed at the weekend and I’m back doing some scenic work so life feels a little like it’s running away from me at the moment! That’s why you’re getting this Studio Notes a little later in the day as I’ve only just gotten around to writing it…
I also introduced something new to Substack this month - the theme of Ambition. I’ve loved exploring what Ambition really means to me and today I want to talk about how that impacted my month as well as giving you some prompts to re-define ambition for yourself.
As always I also just wanted to remind you of the intention of these Studio Notes. They’re here for us to gather together in a cosy virtual circle and check in with how we’re getting on, pause, reflect and then set our intentions for the month ahead. Here’s how March went for me…
How was March?
Overall, March has been pretty good. I feel like I’ve achieved a lot which is always super encouraging and I had some really fun days out with family and friends too.
Honestly? I’ve been struggling to write this post, I’ve left it last minute and I feel SUPER drained today… So, I decided to just make a list of my achievements and allow that to be enough… Here’s what happened in March.

What went well?
My creative practice. I’ll give you the numbers later on but I feel really good about the way I’m showing up for my creativity at the moment.
7 art opportunities applied for. This has been no mean feat, it’s something wildly out of my comfort zone but it’s been fun to get my work out there and leave the rest up to fate. I’ve already had a couple rejections which is a little disheartening but I’m hoping that if I follow through the right opportunities will find me. It’s all about building that muscle and normalising getting my work out there.
I’ve gotten back to being consistent on Pinterest which I’m really proud of. This is something I’ve been meaning to do for ages but not quite gotten around to. I feel like I’ve finally broken the seal and found a way to make this super easy for me to maintain and is easily making my work way more visible than it was before which feels like a big win.

I’ve also sent 2 emails to my list and posted a blog on my website, two projects I’m happy to have picked back up after a VERY extended break. They’re both great for visibility in my business.
I’ve made a plan and mapped out all my art launches throughout the year, that plan genuinely is making it easier than ever to take action and really use the time I have available to me. You can read more about how I made the plan here…
A website that is closer to finished than ever - I now have an updated commissions and portfolio page. All I have left to do now are minor pages and a few small behind the scenes tweaks to improve my visibility.
I’m back to scenic work. I’ve completed a sample and a quote for a company that is totally new to me which is exciting but I’ve also spent a few days with a company I work for regularly. Money isn’t where I want it to be. Between the middle of Feb and the middle of March I had a whole month off of scenic work there, which means my income is significantly lower than it was this time last year. That leads me too…
